1. Refusing to Show a Driver’s License
Sovereign citizens commonly refuse to present a valid driver’s license when pulled over, claiming they are not required to under “common law” or because they are “traveling,” not driving.
2. Claiming the Traffic Stop Is Unlawful
They often declare that the traffic stop is illegal or unconstitutional, asserting that officers have no authority or “jurisdiction” over them.
3. Refusing to Leave the Vehicle
If directed to exit the vehicle, they may refuse and argue that officers have no power to compel them.
4. Citing the Constitution Incorrectly
Many attempt to recite constitutional phrases or legal terms inaccurately in hopes of invalidating the stop.
5. Threatening Legal Action
They frequently threaten lawsuits or claim officers will be personally liable for attempting to enforce the law.

6. Presenting Fake or Illegitimate Documents
Sovereign citizens sometimes provide homemade identification cards, false “right-to-travel” documents, or pseudo-legal paperwork that has no legal authority.
7. Filming Officers While Giving False Legal Narratives
They often record interactions while reciting incorrect legal principles, attempting to provoke officers or create online content.
8. Refusing to Provide Basic Identification
Even when legally required, they may refuse to state their name, provide registration, or confirm their identity.
9. Filing False Liens or Bogus Lawsuits Against Officers
Some sovereign citizens retaliate by filing fraudulent liens or civil complaints against officers, creating additional burdens for law enforcement and the courts.
If you hold yourself out to be a Sovereign Citizen and want to be treated accordingly, by law enforcement and/or legal representatives, please go elsewhere!
